SUMMARY: ------- In general, the fastest archiver and de-archiver were PKZIP 2.04g and its companion PKUNZIP. The greatest compression was achieved by ha 0.98 although it was the second slowest (trailed only by "scrnch"). The addition of Test 5 (sound files) muddled these generalities. RESULTS: ------- The following five tests were run on a DFI 486/33 EISA with a Fujitsu 500M drive (disk caching disabled) with 8 Meg of RAM running DOS 5.0. No TSRs were loaded. Times are rounded to the nearest second.
